Age of Consent – Heartbreak

May 15, 2012

Heartbreak is the second single from London based duo, Age of Consent. It is a foreboding anthem that features mid/late 80s synth riffs over a hypnotic and repetitive beat (is it the heartbeat of our lovelorn singer?) Of course, this just the type of stuff we eat up. The single is available on their Bandcamp Page for a mere “name your own price.”

And here is another track we like, Column which has a Gary Numan vibe.

Electro Spectre – Dancing Girl

May 14, 2012

Electro Spectre are a Norwegian electronic band. A couple years ago they released Yet It’s Love, a great little synthpop track that was criminally overlooked (but not to our ears). Well, we are excited they are back and gearing up to release a new album, Dangerous Game which will come out in September. To whet our appetite, they are releasing single, Dancing Girl. Band-mate Isak Rypdal apparently is a busy man for he is also producing the debut album for Russian synthpop act, WANT/ed. We are in love with the Electro Spectre remix of their first single, Do I Know which is being made available as a guilt-free download.

Ostrich – Lonely Ghost

May 13, 2012

We first became aware of synthpop duo Ostrich way back in 2008 when their track, Sleeping Angels was a highlight off of the Electropop compilation. It has been a very long 4 years since its release and the time has finally come for them to take their heads out of the sand and reemerge to take the spotlight again with the release of their debut album, The Ostrich Effect. Lonely Ghost is the latest single/video to be taken from the album.

Paper Crows – Changing Colours (Grum Remix)

May 11, 2012

Kate Bush-loving Paper Crows have enlisted Grum to create this dreamy mix of their latest single, Changing Colours. For us, it is the perfect mix to start the weekend. Changing Colours is taken from their Build EP that has just come out.

Here is the video for the single mix…

Trust – Sulk

May 11, 2012

Honestly, we didn’t expect that the setting for the official debut video from Toronto’s chilly electro goth outfit, Trust, would be set in a nightclub, nor did we expect it would feature badly dressed and not so dressed bikini-clad clubgoers, but it has and we will just assume the band and director are in on its irony. Regardless, the video doesn’t detract from the awesomeness of the song and isn’t that all that matters?

Queen of Hearts – Neon

May 10, 2012

What do hot soaking wet male dancers, a bathtub and some strategically placed decrepit bricks have in common? They are all merely warehouse props that frame our Queen of Hearts in her new video, Neon, which proves that when water and electricity mix, things sizzle! Although we get that our Queen commands our attention, and therefore does not need to prove it, we still would have liked to have had her get out of that damn chair and move around a bit more and have fun, girl!

As a bonus, here is the b-side, Tears in the Rain, which was produced by none other than Stefan Storm of The Sound of Arrows!

Grimes – Nightmusic ft. Majical Cloudz

May 10, 2012

Nightmusic is the second official video taken from Grimes‘ critically lauded and breakout album, Visions. The video, directed by John Londono, features Boucher as some sort of mythical sorceress and temptress who lures a young, totally naked (re: possibly NSFW) earth couple from the safety of their earth den to venture out into the forest. The fate of our couple is never made explicitly known, but for some odd reason, their love den is replaced with… glowing eggs. What this all means, we haven’t a clue, but it is nonetheless beautiful to watch.

The Ice Choir – Teletrips

May 10, 2012

We’re big fans of The Ice Choir, the new project of Kurt Feldman, who is the drummer for Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Their earlier track, Two Rings really wowed us and now they are back with a new single, Teletrips, a wintery track which goes down real smooth and reminds us of Scritti Politti. Their debut album, Afar, is scheduled for release on July 31st.

Saint Etienne: I’ve Got Your Music (Golden Filter Remix)

May 8, 2012

It is a partnership that could have only been made from the musical gods. Golden Filter has remixed I’ve Got Your Music, the latest single by the ultimate purveyors of polished pop perfection, Saint Etienne, and it is just as addictively funky and oh so slightly off-kiltered as we had imagined it would be, maybe even more some. The original will appear on the forthcoming Saint Etienne album, Words And Music, which will be their first album of all new material in nearly 7 years. We can’t wait!

New Young Pony Club – You Used to be a Man

May 6, 2012

Electronic/Indie darlings, New Pony Club are back with a new understated single, You Used to be a Man. It is radical change from 2010’s excellent, but criminally underrated, The Optimist, and although we can appreciate the change in direction, we haven’t yet been completely sold on it. We do love, however, the synth bit that starts at around the 2:30 mark and think the video is absolutely gorgeous to watch.
