Eleven:Eleven – Electric Sex

February 28, 2012

Eleven:Eleven are an electro disco band hailing from Austin, Texas. They have built quite the following, largely due to single, Electric Sex, which they are making available as a guilt-free download. We love the sound, we adore the look, and we think these guys are going to really take off. Be sure to check them out on Facebook for more information and electronic goodness. We are also including the just released, Lucky One Remix.

Strangers – Shine on You

February 28, 2012

Get your lighter apps out for we hear a new anthem emerging. Shine on You is the new single by London’s Strangers. It follows Promises, which they released a couple months ago. Comparisions to Hurts notwithstanding, we feel the ballad, with its hands-in-the-air singalong chorus, epic lushious arrangement and pulsating bass line, has that extra something that may propel them to something bigger and greater.

Bear in Heaven – The Reflection of You

February 28, 2012

Brooklyn’s electro-rockers, Bear in Heaven have released a new video for their single, The Reflection of You; a dizzying kinetic, seizure inducing affair. The lushishly synthy track is to be taken from their new cd, I Love You, It’s Cool, due out this summer. We are also including the after hours, Pet Shop Boys sounding, CFCF Remix.

The Opiates – Candy Coated Crime (Disco Bloodbath Remix)

February 26, 2012

Billie Ray Martin is no stranger to bop2pop. No sooner had we profiled her contributions to music when she announced a new project, The Opiates who last year released the brilliant, Hollywood Under The Knife. The album made many best of year lists and now they are back for an encore with a new deluxe digital double album download called Hollywood Cuts. It includes exceptional remixes and reinterpretations with contributions from members of Hercules and Love Affair, Throbbing Gristle, Dan Beaumont and Disco Bloodbath. We are including the just-released video for the Disco Bloodbath Remix of Candy Coated Crime.

Scratch Massive (feat. Jimmy Somerville) – Take Me There (Acid Washed Remix)

February 26, 2012

We have already featured Take Me There that features vocals by former Bronski Beat/Communards front man, Jimmy Somerville and his signature wail. Now comes this fantastic remix by Acid Washed. If you missed it the first go round, be sure to check out the Jimmy-less video here.

Marina and the Diamonds – Homewrecker

February 26, 2012

Homewrecker is the latest track from Marina and the Diamonds and is a happy-go-lucky electropop number that on the surface could be from the musical catalog of Katy Perry, but lyrically is far more sinister and undeniably Marina. It will appear on her new album, Electra Heart, but is not touted to be released as a single. On Homewrecker, Marina is all tease, an “image of deception.” Whether this flirtation with the mainstream that began with Radioactive earlier this year will pay off big or just alienate her current fans remains to be seen. If you like it, be sure to visit her website, where you can download this track for free. Our favorite parts are the filtered spoken bits that remind us of Miss Kitten & the Hacker and the line, “I guess you could say that my life’s a mess, but I’m still looking pretty in this dress.” Amen sister.

MaJiKer – When Fire Becomes My Name

February 26, 2012

Drama, mystery and intrigue collide most beautifully in When Fire Becomes My Name, the new single and video by MaJiKer. The track is taken from his latest album The House Of Bones, which can be found on his Bandcamp Page. The video, directed by Raphaël Neal and dedicated to the late, great, Ken Russell, plays like a 1940s horror film, where everything is not quite what it at first seems.

Social Ambitions – Rockers In My Head

February 26, 2012

Rockers In My Head is the first of 5 new tracks by Swedish synthpop duo, Social Ambitions, that will appear on their new EP, Anticipation, due at the end of the month. The track has a mid-to-late 80s synthpop vibe so if you are a fan of bands like Camouflage or Red Flag, we think you are going to really dig this. We do and after digging into their back catalogue, suspect to be writing quite a bit more about them in the future.

As a bonus, we are including a sublime remix to their previous single, Commandments, made available as a guilt-free download off the band’s Soundcloud page.

Crystal Castles – Suffocation (Video)

February 23, 2012

Someone, somewhere, once said, “Things happen in threes,” so it comes as no suprise that Crystal Castles have created a new video for a not so new song by partnering with online fashion and lifestyle magazine, VS. Magazine. Fashion producing music videos is a trend that began last year with the partnership between Florrie and Dolce & Gabbana for her video, I Took a Little Something, and continued this year with Class Actress and Elle Magazine with Bienvenue. In Suffocation, directed by bandmate, Ethan Kath, lead singer, Alice Glass is seriously working a pouty goth aesthetic, changing outfits (it is a fashion shoot afterall) and looks really really thin, but not much else. A third album, persumably also called, Crystal Castles, is slated for a summer release.

And as a bonus, here is the Health Remix that Crystal Castles has made available as a guilt-free download.

Equatuer – Haunted

February 22, 2012

Equatuer is an electronic duo made up of Romain Nouhi and Charles Rocher. Their first single, Haunted, is a delectibly brooding synth track that seemlessly blends a Miracle aesthetic with vocals that at times recall The Bee Gees. The video features our lads as mermen who emerge from the sea to stroll the sands and ends with a lovely “Bright Eyes” homage a la Bonnie Tyler. The video was directed by Thomas Rhazi.
